Ashanti Region: Two Students Shot by Fellow Student at Bantama SDA SHS

A disturbing incident occurred at Bantama Seventh-day Adventist Senior High School (SDA SHS) in the Ashanti Region, Kumasi on Friday, April 4, 2025, resulting in the detention of a Form Two student by the police. The student, identified as Bernard Amoabeng, allegedly shot a female classmate, Penamang, during a heated argument that took place during break time.
According to eyewitnesses, the altercation began when the student in question brought a firearm to school, sparking a debate among his peers about the authenticity and functionality of the weapon. In an attempt to prove that the gun was real and capable of firing, the student pulled the trigger, unleashing a hail of pellets that struck the female victim in the face and injured another male student who was standing nearby.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 am, and an eyewitness account provided a chilling description of the events that unfolded. “Some of the students rushed to us and reported that two students were arguing about whether the gun was real and capable of firing. Suddenly, the weapon went off, and the pellets spread to the face of one of the victims, a girl, and another student,” the witness recounted.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the suspect was reportedly rescued by teachers who intervened to prevent an angry mob of students from attacking him. The teachers handed the student over to the Suame Police, who have since taken him into custody.
The injured students were initially rushed to Kwadaso Hospital for treatment, but due to the severity of the female victim’s condition, she was subsequently transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.

The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, focusing on how the student acquired the firearm and why he brought it to school. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motivations behind the student’s actions.
