70-year-old farmer crowned National Best Farmer; takes home 1 Million Ghana Cedis
Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong, a 70-year-old farmer from Sekyere Central district in the Ashanti Region, was last night adjudged the Overall Best National Farmer for 2024 at a gala dinner at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
With five decades of farming experience, Nana Owusu has established North American Farms, a successful business that employs 168 people and grows various crops, including cocoa and cashew. He was honored with one million Ghana cedis and additional prizes for his exceptional achievements in farming, which have significantly influenced Ghana’s agricultural sector.
In his award acceptance speech, Nana Owusu emphasized the need for increased national efforts to ensure food security. He urged the government to invest more in the agricultural sector, which would not only benefit farmers but also boost the economy.
His recognition as the National Best Farmer highlights the vital role of farmers in Ghana’s development and the importance of supporting the agricultural sector to maintain sustainable food production.
The National Farmers’ Day celebration was held on Friday, November 8, 2024, across Ghana, recognizing the efforts of farmers nationwide and honoring their significant contributions to the economy. The event highlighted the government’s ongoing support for agriculture through improved policies and initiatives.
