E/R: Woman Struck and Killed Moments After Alighting from ‘Trotro’ at Akyem Apedwa; Ambulance Catches Fire
An accident occurred around 8 a.m. today, November 21, 2025, at Akyem Apedwa in the Abuakwa South Municipal District of the Eastern Region. A private ambulance travelling from Kumasi to Accra fatally struck a female pedestrian identified as Daa Doe, a well-known ‘yakeyake’ and fish seller from Odumase Krobo in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, who was on her way to buy fish.

According to reports, the driver was speeding and attempting to overtake other vehicles when he struck Daa Doe, who had just alighted from a trotro and was standing on the shoulder of the road (by the roadside). The ambulance burst into flames shortly after the impact.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived promptly at the scene and, with great professionalism and efficiency, extinguished the blaze, preventing further damage and ensuring the area was made safe.
According to an eyewitness, the driver, who escaped with minor injuries, appeared more concerned about the burning vehicle and his driver’s license than the victim and insisted he was not at fault.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at a nearby morgue, while the driver has been taken into police custody and transported to hospital for medical examination and treatment.
