Ghana and Morocco Sign Agreement for Visa-free Travel Between the two countries

Ghanaians can now travel to Morocco without the need for a traditional visa, following a landmark visa waiver agreement between the two countries. The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, after a two-day official working visit to Morocco.

According to Minister Ablakwa, the new policy is part of a broader bilateral agreement aimed at strengthening trade, boosting tourism, and enhancing diplomatic and cultural ties between Ghana and Morocco. Under the new arrangement, Ghanaians will no longer be required to visit the Moroccan embassy for visa appointments. Instead, travelers can obtain travel authorization through a simplified online system, with approval expected within 24 hours.

“This is one of the significant agreements reached during my working visit with the Foreign Minister of Morocco, HE Nasser Bourita,” Ablakwa stated in a social media post. He emphasized that the policy is expected to significantly enhance trade, tourism, and people-to-people engagement between the two nations.

In support of the new policy, existing direct flights between Ghana and Morocco will be increased to facilitate smoother travel and encourage greater interaction between the citizens of both countries.

Honorable Ablakwa also highlighted the importance of such diplomatic moves in fostering continental unity. “The borders in Africa must not be allowed to divide us—they can be bridges of connectivity. Diplomacy must make meaningful impact in the lives of the people we serve,” he said.

This visa waiver marks a significant milestone in Ghana-Morocco relations and sets a positive precedent for regional collaboration across Africa.
