25 students suspended indefinitely over same-sex proposal at Agona Swedru SHS

A recent incident at Agona Swedru Senior High School has led to the indefinite suspension of 25 final-year students. The disciplinary action follows their alleged involvement in a violent altercation stemming from a same-sex relationship proposal between two male students.

According to school authorities, the trouble began when one student proposed a romantic relationship to another, who declined the offer. The student who rejected the proposal reportedly shared the incident with his colleagues, who advised him to accept the proposal and set up a meeting with the proposer. However, it appears that the intention was to ambush and assault the proposer.

On the arranged day, a group of students, believed to be friends of the student who was proposed to, waylaid and physically attacked the student who made the proposal. In response, the assaulted student informed his dormitory mates, leading to a reprisal attack. The situation quickly escalated into a full-blown fight involving multiple students.

The school administration took swift action, suspending all 25 students involved in the altercation. Headmistress Mrs. Golda Esi Andam confirmed that the students were given a fair hearing before their suspension. According to Mrs. Andam, the suspended students will be allowed to write their final exams under the escort of their parents.

Mrs. Andam emphasized that the students’ right to education is not being denied, but they must abide by the school’s rules and regulations. She also reminded students that the Ghana Education Service (GES) strictly enforces its code of conduct.
