Eastern South Police Arrest 10, Seize 9 Firearms in Akwatia Pre-Election Crackdown
In a series of targeted security operations in Akwatia ahead of the upcoming by-election, the Eastern South Regional Police Command apprehended ten individuals and confiscated nine firearms. These efforts underscore the police’s commitment to maintaining order and safety during the electoral process.
On August 22, 2025, near St. Dominic Hospital, police intercepted a vehicle driven by Bernard Kumi Ofosu. A search revealed a Tulpar double-barrel pump-action gun, four AAA live cartridges, and two blank cartridges. Although Ofosu presented a license for the firearm, he remains in custody pending verification of the weapon’s documentation.
During a snap check at Akwatia Y-Junction, officers detained Joshua Amenuku after discovering 15 live BB cartridges in his possession. A follow-up search at his residence uncovered an ADLER Tulpar pump-action gun along with five additional cartridges, further implicating him in unlawful possession.

Later that day, at the Boadua Livingstone checkpoint, police arrested Enoch Asiedu and Lu Youyan, a Chinese national, after finding four live cartridges in their Toyota Hilux pickup. The ammunition was reportedly linked to their employer, known only as Mohammed, who is currently being pursued by authorities.

The police operations continued on August 23, with officers arresting Pieterson Joseph at Boadua Livingstone Junction. A search of his vehicle revealed an ADLER Tulpar pump-action gun and 46 cartridges, which the suspect admitted belonged to him.
That same evening, a Toyota Tundra pickup, registered as WR 5535-13, was stopped at Staff Village, Boadua. A search uncovered three pump-action guns: a Pardus, a Hulglu Atroe, and an unidentified brand. Stephen Nkansah, who claimed ownership of two of the guns and stated the third belonged to his chief, was taken into custody.

The seized weapons, which include eight pump-action guns and one locally manufactured single-barrel gun, were recovered through snap checks and targeted operations aimed at preventing the illegal possession and use of firearms during the by-election. These measures are part of a broader strategy to ensure security throughout the electoral period.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command emphasized that these operations are integral to their intensified efforts to safeguard the Akwatia by-election. They have vowed to sustain similar measures to maintain peace and security before, during, and after the polls, ensuring a safe environment for all involved.
