Fire Ravages Sections of Dodowa Market, Destroys Several Containers

A fierce fire broke out at the Dodowa Market in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region in the early hours of Wednesday, destroying several metal containers and properties worth thousands of cedis.

According to reports, the inferno started around 1:25 a.m., sweeping through portions of the market before firefighters arrived to contain it. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Katamanso Fire Station, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Simon Sosu, were the first responders at the scene. They were later joined by reinforcement teams from the Adenta and Madina fire stations.

Through a coordinated effort, the team managed to bring the blaze under control by 3:06 a.m. and completely extinguished it at 4:51 a.m.

In total, 12 containers were completely destroyed along with their contents, while six others suffered partial damage. Firefighters, however, succeeded in preventing the flames from spreading to nearby sheds and adjoining structures, saving over 50 market stalls from destruction.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident. The Deputy Director of Operations, ACFO II Osmond Anum, and other senior officers from the GNFS Tema Region were also present to supervise the firefighting operations.

The GNFS has since launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. Residents and traders have been urged to observe strict fire safety measures and ensure that all electrical connections within the market are properly maintained to prevent future occurrences.
