Four Ghanaian Students Arrested in U.S. for Forging High School Transcripts to Gain University Admission
Four Ghanaian students, identified as Otis Opoku, Evans Oppong (A Former NSMQ Star From Prempeh College), Cyrilstan Nomobon Sowah-Nai, and Henry Dabuo, have been arrested in the United States for allegedly forging documents to gain admission into Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. The students were accused of submitting fake high school transcripts with higher grades to the Lehigh Admissions Office.
The students were arrested on September 6, 2024, and appeared in court on September 9, 2024. They are currently being held at the Northampton County Jail on $100,000 bail. Opoku, Sowah-Nai, and Dabuo were arrested after separate criminal complaints were filed against them by the university authorities.
According to the report, the complaint filed against Opoku showed that he had been a student at Lehigh since 2022 and received a financial aid package worth $212,933.30. Sowah-Nai and Dabuo also received financial aid packages worth $127,213.70 and $129,244, respectively.
The investigation began when the university discovered discrepancies in the admission documents of Henry Dabuo’s brother, Jude, who was also admitted to the university. The authorities found similar issues with the transcripts submitted by the four students, leading to their arrest.
A GoFundMe page was created on September 15, 2024, to support the students, who are expected to appear in court on September 24, 2024.
