President Mahama Grants GH¢100,000 to 13 Sikaman-Brofoyedu Residents for Helicopter Crash Recovery Efforts
President John Dramani Mahama has conveyed deep appreciation to the 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu for their heroic efforts in recovering the bodies of eight victims from the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025.
On Wednesday, August 27, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, acting on behalf of the President, visited the community to personally express gratitude to the recoverers and deliver a comprehensive support package from the government.
The devastating crash took place in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, located in the Adansi Akrofrom District, claiming the lives of eight prominent officials, including Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister, and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. At the time of the accident, the deceased were engaged in official duties.
During his visit, Mr Asiedu Nketiah relayed the President’s heartfelt thanks, stating: “On behalf of the President, I am here to commend the residents who played a vital role in recovering the bodies of our eight fallen men. In recognition of your selfless act, we present a plaque to honor all of you.”
As part of the government’s support, President Mahama provided GH¢100,000 to the recoverers and an additional GH¢20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to facilitate related traditional rites.
Furthermore, the President committed to providing employment opportunities to all 13 individuals involved in the recovery, tailored to their respective skills and qualifications.
President Mahama also pledged to enhance local infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of roads in the Sikaman-Brofoyedu area.
This support package is widely viewed as a meaningful acknowledgment of the courage and sacrifice demonstrated by the Sikaman-Brofoyedu community during one of Ghana’s most heart-wrenching national tragedies.
