Queen Mother Nominates Germany-Based Engineer Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as Mamponghene Successor
Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu, a 51-year-old engineer, has been nominated as the next paramount chief of Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region. He was outdoored by the queen mother as the successor to the Silver Stool of the Asante Kingdom. Mr. Osei-Bonsu, the elder brother of Nana Agyakoma Difie, was presented to the King Makers and Traditional Council at the Amaniampong Stool Palace in Mampong as the Mamponghene-elect. Mr. Osei-Bonsu’s nomination follows the passing of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, and he will succeed him after swearing an oath of allegiance to the Golden Stool at Manhyia Palace.

Royal Lineage and Nomination Process
Born into the Botase Bretuo Royal Family, Mr. Osei-Bonsu was one of approximately 16 candidates nominated by the five royal families eligible to ascend the Silver Stool. His selection as the Mamponghene-elect marks a significant moment for the Asante Mampong traditional area, as he prepares to take on the responsibilities of this revered position. The queen mother’s announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers and a jubilant crowd at the Mampong Stool House, reflecting the community’s support for his nomination.
Educational and Professional Background
Mr. Osei-Bonsu was born on March 14, 1974, and spent his formative years in Kumasi, where he attended City of Kumasi Preparatory School for his basic education. He later pursued secondary education at Prempeh College before enrolling at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Geomatic Engineering. Furthering his academic journey, he traveled to the Netherlands to obtain a master’s degree in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation. Additionally, he holds a second master’s degree in Computational Science and Engineering.

Professional Achievements
A senior software architect and geospatial strategist, Mr. Osei-Bonsu brings over two decades of experience leading complex software initiatives across Africa and Europe. He currently serves as the Product and Service Group Manager at GAF AG in Germany, where his leadership encompasses project governance, infrastructure modernization, and cross-team coordination. His work focuses on aligning projects with evolving standards and regulatory frameworks, showcasing his expertise in managing multifaceted technological advancements.
Traditional Coronation
Mr. Osei-Bonsu is currently recognized as Barima Yaw Nkansa Dwamena. Once his nomination receives approval from the Asantehene, he will participate in customary rites to select his official royal name from the ‘Black Room’ in Asante Mampong. Following this, his coronation will take place, formally introducing him to the people of Mampong as their paramount chief. This process underscores the deep cultural and traditional significance of his role within the Asante Kingdom.
