Throwback to the Scandalous Slap: DKB’s Infamous Exit from Big Brother Africa 2012
On Sunday, May 6, 2012, Ghana was proudly represented by three of its citizens – Derick Kobina Bonney (DKB), Eazzy, and Keitta- in the Seventh Season of the Big Brother Africa, held in Johannesburg, South Africa. However, the excitement was short-lived for one of the housemates, Derick Kobina Bonney (DKB), who was disqualified from the 91-day reality show after a physical altercation with Sierra Leonean female housemate, Zainab, in the Upville house.
The confrontation ensued in June 2012 when DKB was taking a shower and Zainab, a Sierra Leonean lady, repeatedly opened the door despite his frantic attempts to stop her. According to DKB, the sexy housemate failed to show remorse for her actions which got him “pissed off” and subsequently slapped her.
Following the attack, DKB was called to the diary room, while Zainab was sent to the glass house. Big Brother then conducted a thorough investigation, reviewing the rules and interrogating DKB. After this, Big Brother declared that violence and physical attacks would not be tolerated in the show and disqualified DKB for contravening the game rules.
Zainab, who also played a role in the attack, was likewise disqualified from the show. Both housemates departed the show on Day 29, marking an abrupt end to their journey in the Big Brother Africa house.
DKB before exiting the house told Keitta, “I leave the battle to you, make the nation proud.”
In a subsequent conversation with NEWS-ONE’s Francis Addo, DKB reflected on the incident, revealing that it had haunted him and that, if given the chance to go back in time, he would have walked away from Zainab when she first started provoking him.
