2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Asamoah Gyan Urges Black Stars to Take Destiny into Their Own Hands
Former Ghana captain and all-time leading goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has called on the Black Stars to give their all as they prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR).
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Gyan emphasized that the players have their destiny in their own hands and must seize the opportunity to secure qualification. “We are very close. The players have their destiny in their hands. They have done all the work and must now add the finishing touch. They should go all out and get the win,” Gyan stated in an interview with 3Sports.
The former Sunderland striker acknowledged the pressure surrounding the decisive match but urged the players to remain composed and focused. “Some games come with good pressure and keep you on your toes. This is one of those games. Some of the players did it in 2022, and I am confident they can handle it again,” he added.

Gyan, who remains an influential figure within Ghanaian football, has continued to lend his experience and support to the team as they aim to qualify for their fifth World Cup appearance.
The Black Stars are currently leading Group I of the African qualifiers and need a win against the Central African Republic in their penultimate group fixture to maintain their advantage. The match is scheduled to take place in Meknes, Morocco, on Wednesday, October 8.
The team has been training intensively at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, with key players including Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Gideon Mensah, and Alexander Djiku all participating in the sessions.
Ghana’s qualification hopes remain firmly within reach, as victory over CAR would put them in a strong position to secure a direct ticket to the 2026 World Cup to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
With national expectations running high, Gyan’s message resonates as both encouragement and a challenge, urging the Black Stars to rise to the occasion and finish the campaign in style.
