“I won’t interfere If anti-corruption agencies start investigating you”: President Mahama warns appointees
President John Dramani Mahama has issued a firm warning to his appointees, urging them to stay clear of corrupt practices as they carry out their duties. He emphasized that the people of Ghana have placed their trust in his leadership to manage public resources responsibly, and any misuse of funds will not be tolerated.
Addressing Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) during an orientation organized by the Ministry of Local Government, the President stated that institutions such as the Auditor-General’s office would closely monitor their actions. “If these bodies begin to probe your activities, don’t expect any interference from me,” he said plainly.
The event took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Madina, Accra. President Mahama also highlighted his administration’s decision to allocate 80% of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) directly to the MMDCEs. He charged them to ensure these funds are used wisely and transparently, for the benefit of their communities. “This money is not for personal luxury,” he reminded them, “it must serve the people.”
