NPP Bono Regional Chairman Abronye Arrested for Offensive Conduct
The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, for offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 8, 2025, the police confirmed that Abronye was taken into custody and will be arraigned before court. The statement, however, did not provide details of the exact comments or actions that led to the charges.
Abronye’s arrest comes days after he reportedly filed for political asylum in eight countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, and Côte d’Ivoire. He cited alleged political persecution, threats to his life, and misuse of state security agencies as reasons for his petitions.
Prior to his arrest, police personnel had conducted a raid at the residence of Moses Abor, a former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, in search of Abronye. Mr. Abor later described the operation as intimidating and said his family was left traumatized.
Abronye’s lawyer, Daniel Martey Addo, disclosed that his client had voluntarily reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra on Monday but was later transferred to the National Investigations Bureau (NIB). According to him, attempts to locate Abronye at the NIB proved futile as officials there claimed they had no record of his presence.
The police have assured the public that Abronye will be processed for court in due course.
