WAEC Releases 2025 BECE Results, Cancels Results of 895 Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the release of the provisional results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates.

In a detailed press release issued on August 23, 2025, WAEC disclosed that the results have been distributed to schools across the country through the respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. Additionally, candidates can conveniently access their results online by visiting the Council’s official website at www.waecgh.org.

The 2025 BECE saw a total participation of 603,328 candidates, with a gender breakdown of 297,250 males and 306,078 females, representing 20,395 schools nationwide. The examinations were administered across 2,237 designated centres. However, 2,526 candidates were recorded as absent during the examination period. The candidate pool also included individuals with special needs, specifically 72 candidates with visual impairments, 239 with hearing impairments, and 161 requiring other specialized accommodations.

In a statement signed by John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC revealed that the 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee reviewed irregularities detected during the examination and script-marking processes. As a result, the committee authorized the following measures:

  • Cancellation of subject results for 718 candidates.
  • Cancellation of the entire results for 177 candidates.
  • Withholding of subject results for 1,240 candidates.
  • Withholding of the entire results for 93 candidates.

In total, 895 candidates had their results cancelled, while 1,333 candidates’ results are currently withheld pending further investigation.

Additionally, the subject results of candidates from 119 schools were cancelled, and the results of candidates from 87 schools remain under review. WAEC has indicated that decisions regarding the withheld results—whether they will be released or cancelled—will be finalized by September 6, 2025.

Candidates affected by the cancellation or withholding of their results are advised to visit https://irreg.waec.org or access the withheld/cancelled results section on the WAEC website’s homepage. This platform provides detailed information on the reasons for the actions taken and outlines the necessary steps for resolution. School heads can also retrieve this information using their official login credentials.

WAEC issued a strong warning to candidates and the general public to beware of fraudulent individuals offering to upgrade results for a fee. The Council reiterated that its results are secure, tamper-proof, and fully verifiable, urging stakeholders to rely only on official channels for result-related matters.

The Council extended its appreciation to key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, invigilators, examiners, and other partners, for their invaluable contributions to the successful administration of the 2025 BECE and the timely release of the results.
